Antwerp associations digitize through an online portal
Rich association life in city of Antwerp
Antwerp boasts a vibrant association scene, with hundreds of active groups spanning sports, culture, education, and welfare. To better manage and support these organizations, there was a need for a digitization process, which has now been addressed through the creation of an online registration portal.
Development of an online portal
The City of Antwerp and Digipolis engaged Kunlabora to develop an online portal for local associations to register and manage their information. The initial phase of the project, known as CRS-V (Central Reference System Associations), aimed to centralize and enhance services for citizens.
We implemented a participatory model that allows both city employees and citizens to collaborate in managing association activities. The portal accommodates both officially recognized associations and informal groups, ensuring that all can be effectively integrated and supported.
Flexible data model according to OSLO standards
To implement the project, we utilized a flexible data model that can adapt to the evolving needs of users and the specific requirements of various associations. This allows for the storage and processing of diverse types of data.
We based the design of the data model on the OSLO standard, which stands for Open Standards for Linked Organizations. OSLO provides a framework for data exchange, facilitating interoperability and ensuring data consistency across different systems and organizations.
The developed data model is designed to be extendable across various domains. Instead of being restricted to a single type of association or sector, it accommodates a wide range of organizations, including sports clubs, cultural associations, and charitable groups.
Technologies used: JSON-LD and integration into ACPaaS
The APIs adhere to the JSON-LD standard, which stands for JavaScript ObjectNotation for Linked Data. JSON-LD is a method for structuring and connecting data, ensuring that the APIs present information in a standardized and easily integrable format.
Additionally, we ensured that the back office application is fully integrated into ACPaaS (Antwerp City Platform as a Service). ACPaaS is a platform developed by the City of Antwerp to digitize and unify various city services within its systems. By integrating the back office application into ACPaaS, the portal operates efficiently and consistently, and facilitates seamless interaction with other services on the platform.
