The importance of a Service Blueprint
Successful software development starts with a clear vision and a clear plan regarding the necessary software requirements. Building software solutions goes beyond just software development, which is why Kunlabora offers the Service Blueprint. But what is the Service Blueprint?

With a Service Blueprint, we first capture the client's vision, then translate it into software requirements, and finally into the design of a high-level solution. Thanks to the Service Blueprint, we proactively estimate the software solution. This allows us to quickly come to a planning and roadmap where we determine the various milestones together. Result: a fast and efficient software development process.
What is a Service Blueprint?
Software development is an iterative process where feedback on each iteration plays a major role in the direction of the development process. With the intended business value in mind, the software development trajectory can therefore change direction. With a Service Blueprint, we ensure that the software development process can easily and efficiently handle these changes in direction.

How to create a Service Blueprint?
When creating a Service Blueprint, we at Kunlabora act quickly: within two weeks, we work intensively with you to gather input on what the software should be able to do. We then present your organization with a customized design along with an action plan on how we want to organize the software implementation.
In the action plan of the Service Blueprint, we take into account all product deliverables. At a high level, we map out the functional, technical, and managerial aspects. We process this into a well-founded design with the necessary explanations. This gives you a clear picture of how we want to realize your customized solution.
The plans are developed during various workshops. It is an excellent way to create support among all stakeholders for why a new software application or system update is needed. During the workshops, we ensure that everyone is on the same page to start software development quickly and well-prepared.
The course of a Service Blueprint
Now that we have answered the question 'What is a Service Blueprint', we move on to the course of a Service Blueprint. Service blueprinting proceeds in a structured manner through the following steps:
- Intake interview: Together we determine the goals and scope of the Service Blueprint. You will receive a detailed explanation of our approach.
- Planning and setup: First, we assemble a Service Blueprint team. Then, in mutual consultation, we determine the timing of the workshops and decide when which stakeholders need to be present.
- Design and roadmap: Close collaboration is essential to arrive at a good software design and roadmap. The solution must fit well with your needs and requirements. During this step, we apply various techniques, such as impact mapping and user story mapping. We support this process with visual, technical diagrams.
- Debrief: Together with the key stakeholders, we discuss the overview of the Service Blueprint and determine the next steps of the software implementation. This includes a solid estimate of the project and the budget associated with it.

Service blueprinting in practice
Povigo is a good example of a service blueprint and how we quickly arrived at an application with it. We carried out this project with APHogeschool, IDEA Consult, and Groep Intro, thanks to funding from Europe WSE. We developed a mobile application that supports people in their return to the labor market after a burnout. Together with the partners, we first clearly mapped out what the app should be able to do and how it should look. Thanks to the thorough preparation, we managed to build a Minimum Viable Product in three months.
Another good example of a Service Blueprint we carried out was for the EMMA project for the Flemish Social Protection (VSB).
Through EMMA, people in need can apply for mobility aids, such as wheelchairs and electric scooters. Suppliers can now request these aids and send them to the VSB on behalf of the care recipient. Upon approval by the VSB, the supplier delivers the mobility aid to the patient and arranges billing directly with the competent health insurance funds. The VSB had already done a lot of homework, but at the start of the project, the exact scope and required functionalities were not yet 100% clear. The Service Blueprint was therefore a necessary step.
